What kind of pump is an ammonia circulation pump?

What kind of pump is an ammonia circulation pump?

Ammonia circulation pump This is a corrosion-resistant chemical circulation pump specifically designed for conveying and circulating ammonia-water media. It falls under the broader category of centrifugal pumps. Its core function is to circulate and pressurize the medium within ammonia-water-based process systems, while effectively accommodating the corrosive and volatile properties of ammonia water.

  Core features

  1. Compatible with corrosion-resistant materials

Ammonia solution is weakly alkaline and exhibits some corrosivity; the higher its concentration and the higher its temperature, the stronger its corrosivity becomes. Therefore, the flow-path components of ammonia solution circulation pumps (such as the pump body, impeller, shaft sleeve, etc.) are made from alkali-resistant materials. Commonly used materials include:

Ordinary low-concentration ammonia solution: Cast iron with rubber lining, ductile iron

Medium-to-high concentration/high-temperature ammonia solutions: 304/316L stainless steel, fluoroplastics (F46, PVDF), and fluoropolymer-lined materials.

  2. Excellent sealing performance

Ammonia solution is highly volatile; after a leak, it produces a pungent odor and may also contaminate the environment. These pumps typically employ mechanical seals (single-face or double-face). In certain operating conditions, they are equipped with seal flushing systems to ensure leak-free operation.

  3. Compatible with cyclic operating conditions

Mostly designed with a centrifugal pump structure, these pumps offer stable flow rates and a wide head range, making them well-suited to meet the circulating transport requirements in fields such as chemical engineering and environmental protection. For example, in ammonia-based desulfurization and denitrification systems, they enable the continuous recirculation and spray of ammonia solution within the absorption tower.
