What should be noted when installing and maintaining a corrosion-resistant, explosion-proof ammonia circulation pump?

What should be noted when installing and maintaining a corrosion-resistant, explosion-proof ammonia circulation pump? ?

Corrosion-resistant and explosion-proof ammonia circulation pump For installation and maintenance, the three key areas to focus on are explosion-proof safety, corrosion prevention and leak detection, and stable equipment operation—none of these steps can be taken lightly. The specific precautions can be divided into two easily understandable and actionable parts:

  One, Installation Precautions

Before installation, first... “ Verify identity ”

Verify the pump's explosion-proof rating. ( Must be Exd II BT4 And above ) Material of flow-through components ( Fluoroplastic / F46 or 316L Stainless steel, compatible with ammonia service conditions. ) Check whether the explosion-proof motor housing and junction box are damaged, and whether the sealing gasket is intact. If even one of these components is missing, do not proceed with installation.

Inventory the components: Seals that are resistant to ammonia corrosion must be used. ( PTFE gaskets, mechanical seals ) Don't mix and match ordinary rubber gaskets—otherwise, they'll quickly corrode and leak.

Basic and piping installation requirements “ Stable ”

The pump’s installation foundation must be level and stable, and vibration isolation measures should be taken together with the motor. ( Vibration-damping pad with adjustable stiffness ) To prevent excessive vibration during operation from causing flange leakage and accelerating seal wear.

When installing piping, it is essential to provide separate supports for the piping and ensure that the pump body does not bear the weight of the piping. Otherwise, the pump’s inlet and outlet connections could be damaged, leading to ammonia leakage.

The inlet and outlet pipelines should be equipped with valves and pressure gauges to facilitate flow adjustment and pressure monitoring. ; The pump’s suction inlet should be as short and straight as possible to minimize resistance and prevent dry running, which can lead to failure to draw liquid.

Explosion-proof electrical connection is “ Safety Red Line ”

The wiring must use explosion-proof junction boxes, and cables must be routed through explosion-proof flexible conduits. The connections must be tightly sealed with no gaps whatsoever to prevent ammonia gas from leaking into the electrical components and causing sparks.

The motor must be reliably grounded. ( Ground resistance <4Ω) This is the key to explosion prevention—never turn on the device without grounding it.

In explosion-proof areas, the use of non-explosion-proof tools for construction is strictly prohibited to avoid impacts that could generate sparks and ignite ammonia gas.

Must be done before trial operation “ Drain and leak test ”

Before the first startup, be sure to fill the pump with ammonia solution and bleed all air from the pump to prevent dry running and damage to the mechanical seal. ; Check the motor's rotation direction when jogging it; reversing the rotation can cause the pump to fail to draw liquid.

During the trial run, closely monitor the inlet and outlet pressures and the motor temperature. At the same time, use soapy water to check all flanges and sealing areas—there must be absolutely no leaks. If any leakage is detected, immediately stop the machine and address the issue.

  II. Maintenance Precautions

Daily inspections are required. “ Pay close attention to details. ”

Watch three points every day: ① Is there an ammonia leak? ( Focus on inspecting mechanical seals and flanges. );② Are there any unusual noises or vibrations from the pump and motor? ;③ Motor temperature rise ( Do not exceed the ratings specified on the nameplate to prevent overheating and failure of the explosion-proof motor. )。

Ensure the liquid level in the circulation system remains stable; absolutely prohibit dry running—dry running is strictly forbidden. 1 A few minutes can wear out the mechanical seal, leading to leakage.

Regular maintenance is required. “ Replace the parts ”

Regular replacement of seals: Mechanical seals are wear parts and should be replaced based on operating conditions. 1-3 Check it once every month, and if it’s worn out, replace it with the same model of corrosion-resistant and explosion-proof part—don’t make do with ordinary seals.

Do not mix materials: During maintenance, if you replace the pump body or impeller components, they must be made of the same material as the original. ( Fluoroplastic / 316L) Mixing different materials will accelerate corrosion.

Don't damage the explosion-proof components: When inspecting the motor junction box, be careful not to damage the sealing gasket. After wiring, make sure to tighten the explosion-proof bolts—missing even one bolt can compromise the explosion-proof performance.

  Shutdown maintenance required. “ Anti-corrosion ”

Short-term shutdown ( A few days ) Empty the ammonia solution from the pump and flush the pump chamber with clean water to prevent residual ammonia from crystallizing and corroding the components.

Long-term shutdown ( More than one month ) In addition to rinsing with clean water, apply rust-preventive oil to the pump shaft and seal the motor junction box tightly to prevent moisture from entering and compromising the explosion-proof performance.

Maintaining security requires “ Follow the rules ”

Before performing any maintenance operations, the power must be disconnected and a tag must be placed to prevent others from accidentally turning the equipment on. ; In explosion-proof areas, do not strike surfaces with iron tools to avoid generating sparks.

When handling ammonia solution, wear protective gloves and goggles to prevent skin and eye irritation.
