Horizontal Double-Suction Pump Installation and Commissioning: This Approach Is Both Efficient and Reliable.

Horizontal Double-Suction Pump Installation and Commissioning: This Approach Is Both Efficient and Reliable.

All of us who work in industrial equipment installation know very well that... Horizontal split-case double-suction pump The installation and commissioning directly affect the subsequent operational performance. If installed incorrectly, not only will the pump run unstably and consume more energy, but it’ll also be prone to frequent breakdowns, disrupting production. Today, I’ll explain the key steps involved in simple terms—easy enough for beginners to understand.

Let’s start with the preparations before installation—don’t skimp on this step. First, you need to choose the right installation site: it must be level and stable, and you should also leave enough space for future maintenance. After all, servicing a horizontal pump requires sufficient operational space. Next, inspect the pump body and its components carefully: check whether critical parts such as the impeller and shaft are damaged, whether the seals are intact, and whether all accessories—including the base and bolts—are present and in good condition. Additionally, make sure the foundation is poured solidly and that it’s properly leveled and aligned; otherwise, the pump will vibrate during operation, shortening its service life.

Next come the core installation steps. The first step is to secure the base: Place the base onto the poured foundation, use a level to ensure it’s perfectly horizontal, and then firmly fix it in place with expansion bolts. This step lays the foundation for the pump’s stable operation. The second step is to hoist the pump body into position. When lifting, be careful to protect the pump shaft and sealing surfaces—avoid any impacts or scratches. Once the pump body is placed on the base, adjust its horizontal alignment and coaxiality, especially the coaxiality between the pump shaft and the motor shaft. Excessive deviation can easily lead to bearing overheating and seal leakage. After making the necessary adjustments, securely fasten the pump body to the base using bolts. The third step is to connect the piping: Ensure that the inlet and outlet pipes are tightly connected to prevent leaks. At the same time, provide adequate support for the piping—don’t allow the weight of the pipes to rest directly on the pump body, as this could damage the pump casing.

Once the installation is complete, it’s time for the commissioning phase—the crucial step to verify the installation’s effectiveness. First, perform no-load commissioning: check the lubricant level and sealing conditions, then briefly jog the motor to confirm that the pump’s rotation direction is correct and that there are no unusual noises. If everything looks fine, start the motor and run it at no load for a few minutes, monitoring the bearing temperature and vibration levels. Only after confirming that all parameters are normal should you proceed to load commissioning. During load commissioning, gradually open the inlet and outlet valves, slowly increasing the flow rate and pressure while continuously monitoring the pump’s operating parameters—such as current, head, and flow rate—to ensure they meet the specified operating conditions. Also, keep an eye out for any leaks around the seals and whether the bearing temperature exceeds the allowable limit. If you notice excessive vibration or abnormal noise, immediately stop the pump, conduct a thorough inspection, make the necessary adjustments, and then restart the commissioning process.

Finally, a reminder to everyone: After debugging is complete, be sure to keep thorough records, including installation data and debugging parameters, to facilitate future maintenance. Also, during the initial operation phase, pay close attention to the pump’s operating condition and address any issues promptly as they arise. In fact, as long as you properly perform the key steps—such as leveling, alignment, and coaxiality adjustment—the installation and commissioning of a horizontal split-case double-suction pump won’t be difficult, and subsequent operation will be even more reliable.
