Project Introduction

Laos gold mine procurement of MD800-80X9 mining multistage pump

During the mining operations at a gold mine in a mountainous region of Laos, the site has long grappled with the challenge of underground water inflow. During the rainy season, abundant rainfall leads to substantial water inflows with high sediment content. The existing aging pumps suffer from insufficient head and poor wear resistance, resulting in frequent breakdowns and shutdowns. Consequently, drainage efficiency fails to keep pace with production demands, not only slowing down progress but also posing significant safety risks underground. After extensive evaluation and comparison among multiple options, the mine ultimately procured… MD800-80×9 Mining Multistage Pump As the main underground drainage equipment.

This pump has a total head of 720 meters and a rated flow rate of 800 m³/h, making it ideally suited to the high‑flow, high‑head dewatering conditions typical of mining operations. Its wetted components are constructed from wear‑resistant alloy, effectively handling mine water containing sand and sediment. Paired with a premium mechanical seal design, it delivers robust sealing performance, minimizing leakage and enabling 24‑hour continuous, stable operation to meet the demands of uninterrupted mining processes.

Taking into account the transportation and power‑supply conditions in Laos’s mountainous regions, we developed a tailored solution, optimized equipment packaging and logistics, and provided remote installation and commissioning support. Upon arrival, the equipment passed its initial test run on the first attempt. Since going live, it has operated smoothly with an exceptionally low failure rate, effectively addressing the mine’s longstanding drainage challenges, enabling precise control of underground water levels, and successfully navigating the peak inflow periods during the rainy season. The system has significantly reduced maintenance frequency and operational costs, ensuring continuous, safe production at the gold mine. Its reliable performance has earned high praise from the client, prompting plans to add additional pump units of the same model to establish a standardized one‑in‑use, one‑spare drainage configuration.
