Installation and Operation Instructions for CDL/CDLF Vertical Stainless Steel Multistage Pumps
1. The CDLF vertical stainless steel multistage pump should be installed vertically on the ground. During installation, ensure that sufficient cool air can enter the motor’s cooling fan. The arrow at the bottom of the pump indicates the flow direction through the pump.
2. To minimize noise generated by the pump, it is best to install vibration-damping mounts on both sides of the pump as well as between the foundation and the pump body. Flanges, gaskets, bolts, and PJE couplings are provided as accessories and must be ordered separately. If cleaning, repair, or replacement of the pump becomes necessary, isolation valves should be installed on both sides of the pump to prevent system drainage. When installing piping for multistage centrifugal pumps, avoid air pockets, paying particular attention to the pump’s suction side. Pipes should be installed in such a way that any thermal expansion or contraction does not affect the pump. If the pump is installed on a long pipe, appropriate supports should be provided both upstream and downstream of the pump, as shown in the diagram.
3. If there is a risk that the multistage centrifugal pump could become clogged by stones, leaves, small branches, or the like, measures must be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring. Simply install a filter screen at the suction pipe section.
4. In certain installation scenarios, if the drain pipe is already installed horizontally or slopes downward toward the pump, water inside the pump will inevitably drain away from time to time. To prevent the pump from running dry—i.e., with the impeller spinning idly—the pump should be protected accordingly. Installing a short section of pipe equipped with a vacuum valve near the pump can effectively avoid this situation. The highest point of the annular pipe should be at least level with the connection plate of the pump’s motor. This arrangement allows the drain pipe to discharge water independently from the pump, and vice versa.
5. When the drain valve is closed, the pump must not be operated, as this could cause an increase in temperature and vapor formation inside the pump, potentially leading to pump damage. If there is any risk of pump operation when the drain valve is closed, connect a bypass or drain line to the pump outlet. This will ensure that at least some liquid continues to flow through the pump. For example, the drain line can be connected to a water tank.
6. Minimum flow rate for CDL and CDLF light-duty multistage pumps.
Example of Use for CDL/CDLF Vertical Stainless Steel Multistage Pumps
A typical example of a high-pressure flushing system diagram. We recommend this installation method, as shown in the figure, for applications where it cannot be guaranteed that a “minimum flow rate” will pass through the pump.
1. The liquid flow switch for the vertical stainless steel multistage pump will protect the pump by preventing it from overheating and getting damaged when the liquid flow is too low.
2. The filter screen of the vertical stainless steel multistage pump is installed in devices used to convey slightly contaminated water to protect the liquid flow switch.
Note: The above measures are unnecessary in systems where the fluid flow is stable and the minimum flow rate can be reliably maintained. However, in systems prone to water hammer, a check valve must always be installed at the pump outlet. Never use quick-closing valves—such as rapid-closing spray guns—since these types of spray guns can induce water hammer, which may affect the coupling between the motor and the pump shaft and, in severe cases, even cause the pump shaft to break.
Electrical Connection for CDL/CDLF Vertical Stainless Steel Multistage Pumps
1. Before opening the junction box cover or removing any pump components, be sure to turn off the power supply for the vertical stainless steel multistage pump. Electrical connections must be made by a qualified electrician in compliance with local regulations. The motor’s junction box must be properly wired and connected to the power switch. The operating voltage and frequency are indicated on the nameplate. Please note that the power supply used must be compatible with the motor. Three-phase motors must be connected to a starter equipped with protective features.
2. The junction box of the CDLF vertical stainless steel multistage pump can be rotated sequentially by 90° and locked in four positions. If necessary, use a screwdriver to remove the coupling guard plate, but do not remove the coupling itself. Unscrew the bolts that secure the motor to the pump. Rotate the motor to the desired position, then reattach and tighten the bolts. Reinstall the coupling guard plate, ensuring it is vertically aligned within the recess on the pump head. Electrical connections should be made according to the wiring diagram inside the junction box cover.
Note: Do not start the vertical stainless steel multistage pump before it is fully filled with liquid.
Startup Instructions for CDL/CDLF Vertical Stainless Steel Multistage Pumps
1. When the liquid level in the CDLF vertical stainless steel multistage pump is higher than the pump inlet in a closed system or an open system:
1. Close the drain isolation valve and loosen the bleed screw on the pump head.
2. Please pay attention to the direction of the exhaust port and ensure that the flowing water does not cause injury to people or damage to the motor or other components. In hot-water systems, special care must be taken to avoid the risk of scalding from extremely hot water.
3. Slowly open the isolation valve on the suction pipe until a steady stream of liquid begins to flow out of the air-release valve.
4. When starting the light-duty multistage centrifugal pump, tighten the vent screw and fully open the isolation valve.
II. When the liquid level of the CDLF vertical stainless steel multistage pump falls below the open system at the pump inlet:
1. The suction pipe and the pump must be filled with liquid and purged of air before starting the pump.
2, CDL2, 4 (CDLF2, 4, 8, 16)
3. Close the drain isolation valve. Turn the bypass valve slightly away from the stopper, as shown in Figure 7.
4. Remove the infusion plug, and inject liquid through the infusion port until the suction tube and pump are completely filled with liquid. Then, tighten the bypass valve again.
5. When starting the light-duty multistage centrifugal pump, reinsert the priming plug and tighten it securely.
3. When starting the CDLF vertical stainless steel multistage pump, check the rotation direction:
1. Do not start the vertical stainless steel multistage pump to check the rotation direction before it has been filled with liquid.
2. When checking the rotation direction of the motor, do not remove the coupling for inspection. This is because once the coupling has been removed, the shaft position will need to be adjusted. The correct rotation direction is indicated by an arrow on the pump head or on the motor’s fan cover. When viewed from the fan side, a light-duty multistage centrifugal pump should rotate counterclockwise.
4. Starting the Vertical Stainless Steel Multistage Pump:
1. Before starting the vertical stainless steel multistage pump, fully open the isolation valve on the pump’s suction side, while keeping the isolation valve on the discharge side almost closed.
2. When starting a vertical stainless steel multistage pump, loosen the air-bleed screw on the pump head to bleed the pump until a steady stream of liquid begins to flow out of the air-bleed port; then tighten the air-bleed screw again.
Note: Pay attention to the direction of the vent hole and ensure that the flowing liquid will not cause injury to people or damage to the motor or other components. In hot-water systems, special care must be taken to avoid the risk of scalding from hot water. Once the piping system is fully filled with liquid, slowly open the isolation valve until it is fully open. When the pump is drawing a liquid containing air, it is best to periodically bleed the air from the pump. To bleed the pump, loosen the vent screw on the pump head during operation.
Maintenance, Startup, and Shutdown Frequency for CDL/CDLF Vertical Stainless Steel Multistage Pumps
Maintenance of the CDLF vertical stainless steel multistage pump:
1. Before starting the vertical stainless steel multistage pump, make sure that no power is supplied to the pump and that the pump cannot start unexpectedly.
2. The bearings and shaft seals of the vertical stainless steel multistage pump are maintenance-free. If the pump is to be left unused for an extended period, remove one of the coupling guard plates, then inject a few drops of silicone oil onto the shaft between the pump head and the coupling. This will prevent the shaft seal surfaces from sticking together.
3. When installing the coupling guard, make sure that it is vertically aligned with the recesses on the pump head.
CDLF Vertical Stainless Steel Multistage Pump Motor Bearings :
4. Motors without lubrication nipples do not require maintenance. Motors equipped with lubrication nipples should be lubricated with high-temperature lithium-based grease.
5. If a light-duty multistage centrifugal pump is to be left idle for an extended period, it is recommended that both the pump and the motor be cleaned and lubricated as soon as they are no longer in use.
6. During periods of frost when the pump is not in use, drain the water to prevent damage and cracking. Loosen the vent screw on the pump head and remove the drain plug from the base to allow the pump to drain completely. After all the water has been drained, reassemble the removed components or store them properly.
Starting and stopping frequency of the CDLF vertical stainless steel light-duty multistage centrifugal pump:
For vertical multistage centrifugal pumps driven by motors with a power rating of less than 4 kW, the number of starts per hour shall not exceed 100. For other motors, the number of starts per hour shall not exceed 20.

Q
What is your typical delivery time?
A
Models in stock can be shipped the next day at the latest. All others are custom-made, with lead times generally ranging from 7 to 90 days depending on the product size and project specifics. Please contact our sales manager for details: 0731-88632200 。
Q
Do you have centrifugal pumps in stock?
A
Centrifugal pumps come in numerous models and configurations. Except for a small number of high-volume, standard models that are in stock, the vast majority are not stocked and are customized products. We need to select a pump based on your site's flow rate, head, media temperature, pH value, and installation conditions, etc., to determine the pump model and configuration before we can submit an order to the factory for production.
Q
What information should I provide when requesting a quote?
A
Generally, to obtain an accurate quotation, we recommend providing us with the following information: pump flow rate, head, on-site operating voltage and frequency, temperature, pH value, and solid particle content of the fluid being conveyed, and on-site installation conditions (horizontal or vertical installation), etc.
If you are not sure, don't worry, our business managers will assist you in determining this.
Q
What products do you mainly produce?
A
Zhonglian Pump Industry manufactures various large industrial centrifugal pumps. Main products include: self-balancing multi-stage pumps, multi-stage centrifugal pumps, single-stage centrifugal pumps, split-case pumps, chemical pumps, submersible pumps, pipeline pumps, long-shaft pumps, condensate pumps, etc.
Q
Why is it so slow to get a price quote?
A
Because centrifugal pumps are non-standard customized products with many models, the price range is also very large. Even for the same model, the price difference is also very large due to different materials and configurations. Taking the most common water pump accessory—the impeller—as an example, the price of a stainless steel impeller is several times that of a cast iron impeller. Therefore, we need to clarify the relevant information to give you an accurate price. Normally, if you provide relatively comprehensive information, we can quote within 5 minutes.
