Overview of Bearings:
A bearing is a component used in mechanical transmission systems to fix the position of parts and reduce the coefficient of friction between them. In other words, when other machine components move relative to each other on a shaft, a bearing serves to minimize friction during power transmission and maintain the shaft’s central position. According to the nature of friction between the moving elements, bearings can be classified into two main types: rolling bearings and sliding bearings.
Lubrication purpose of stainless steel bearings:
The purpose of lubrication in rolling bearings is to reduce internal friction and wear within the bearing and prevent seizing and galling. The lubrication effects are as follows:
1. Reduce friction and wear
In the areas where the inner and outer rings, rolling elements, and retainer of the bearing come into contact with each other, prevent metal-to-metal contact to reduce friction and wear.
2. Extend fatigue life
The rolling fatigue life of a bearing is extended when the rolling contact surfaces are well-lubricated during rotation; conversely, it is shortened if the oil viscosity is low and the lubricant film thickness is inadequate.
3. Dissipate frictional heat and cool.
The circulating oil method, among other techniques, can use oil to dissipate heat generated by friction or heat transferred from external sources, thereby providing cooling. This prevents the bearing from overheating and also helps to inhibit the aging of the lubricant itself.
4. Other
It also has the effect of preventing foreign objects from entering the bearing interior and of protecting against rust and corrosion.
