Overview of the Constant-Level Oil Cup:
The constant-level oil cup maintains the lubricating oil within the bearing housing at a designed, constant level. It also serves as a sight window, allowing operators to determine whether to add more lubricant based on the oil level in the cup.
Common problems encountered with fixed-position oil cups in the field and their corresponding solutions:
First, oil is leaking outward from the bearing cover.
Oil leakage from the bearing cover indicates that the oil level inside the housing is too high. The possible reasons are as follows:
1. There is an error in the machining of the surface. The machined surface has a relatively large slope, or the oil supply pipe for the oil cup is too short, causing the upper endpoint of the surface to be positioned higher than intended. As a result, the constant oil level rises above the designed level, leading to oil leakage from the gland area, which contaminates the site and also causes operators frequent refilling tasks. The solution is to grind down the surface or the mating surface, thereby lowering the upper endpoint of the surface to the designed oil level height.
② The hole machining connecting the bearing housing to the cross pipe was incorrect. If the hole in the housing is machined at an angle, it causes the cross pipe to lift upward, thereby raising the constant oil level and leading to oil leakage from the bearing cover. To resolve this issue, without altering the hole itself, bend the cross pipe downward to keep it horizontal.
Second, there is insufficient oil inside the bearing housing.
The main reasons for insufficient oil in the bearing housing are:
1. A small face slope or an excessively long oil supply pipe from the oil cup can cause the upper end point of the face to drop, thereby lowering the position of the constant oil level and leading to insufficient lubrication of the bearing, resulting in bearing burnout and seizure. The solution is to add a shim of a certain height to the face, raising the position of the upper end point and thus achieving the design-standard oil level.
2. The vent hole on the oil cup is blocked, disrupting the communicating vessel system. As a result, the oil level in the housing drops, preventing gas from entering the oil cup smoothly. Consequently, the oil inside the oil cup cannot flow out, thus failing to achieve the intended replenishment effect. The solution is to clear the vent hole and ensure it remains unobstructed.
3. The machining tolerance of the hole connecting the bearing housing to the horizontal branch pipe has been exceeded, causing the horizontal branch pipe to slope downward and resulting in the upper end point on the surface falling below the designed oil level height. The solution is to slightly bend the horizontal branch pipe upward to keep it水平. Oil leakage can lead to environmental pollution; in some cases, environmental oil leakage may trigger serious accidents such as fires. Moreover, when there is insufficient oil, it can cause severe incidents like bearing burnout and shaft seizure. Therefore, we must pay close attention to this issue.
