Product Overview

The UHB wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant mortar pump is a single-stage, single-suction, cantilevered chemical pump, also known as a desulfurization pump, fluoroplastic mortar pump, or filter press pump. It is specially designed and developed for conveying corrosive media containing fine particles. The wetted parts of the pump are made of steel-lined ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), which is currently recognized internationally as a new-generation fluoroplastic material with excellent corrosion resistance and wear resistance for pump applications. Its outstanding advantages include superior wear resistance, impact resistance—especially resistance to low-temperature impacts—creep resistance (resistance to environmental stress cracking), and exceptionally good corrosion resistance among all plastics. Additionally, the pump features a metal-based structural design, enhancing its pressure-bearing capacity.

The UHB-type mortar pump is capable of adapting to a wide variety of operating conditions. For instance, it can convey clear liquids or slurries containing acids and alkalis; it can also handle various corrosive mineral slurries in the metallurgical industry, as well as dilute acids used in the sulfuric acid industry and various types of wastewater from environmental protection industries. The pump can transport slurries of acids, alkalis, and salts with concentrations below 80% for sulfuric acid, below 50% for nitric acid, and hydrochloric acid, among other substances. Additionally, it can handle corrosive mortars used in the refining of rare metals and various mixed media found in the food and beverage industries. This pump boasts both excellent corrosion resistance and wear resistance, making it suitable for an extremely broad range of applications.

The UHB chemical pump has been extensively and consistently used for long periods in acid slurry and dilute acid applications at more than 30 large-scale non-ferrous metallurgical and sulfuric acid enterprises, and it has received extremely high praise for its corrosion resistance, wear resistance, sealing reliability, and service life.

Main features of the UHB-type chemical-resistant and wear-resistant mortar pump

The UHB-type corrosion-resistant mortar pump is a pump that can adapt to a wide variety of operating conditions, such as conveying clear liquids or slurries that are acidic or alkaline; corrosive mineral slurries in the metallurgical industry; dilute acids of various types in the sulfuric acid industry; and various kinds of wastewater in the environmental protection industry. This pump is both corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant, making it suitable for an extremely broad range of applications. It features the following characteristics:

  1) Exceptional wear resistance: All flow components are made of steel-lined ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE). UHMW-PE boasts the highest wear resistance among plastics, being four times higher than that of nylon 66 (PA66) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and 7 to 10 times greater than that of carbon steel and stainless steel.

  2) Excellent impact resistance: Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene boasts the highest impact strength among general-purpose engineering plastics—five times that of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) copolymer—and can maintain its stability even at temperatures as low as -196°C—a property unmatched by any other plastic.

  3) Excellent corrosion resistance: This pump can withstand a variety of corrosive media (acids, bases, salts) and organic solvents within a certain temperature and concentration range. It was immersed for 30 days in 80 types of organic solvents at both 20°C and 90°C. No abnormal phenomena were observed on the surface, and other physical properties remained virtually unchanged.

  4) Noise-free: Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene boasts the highest impact energy absorption among plastics, offering excellent sound-damping properties and thereby minimizing noise generated by liquid flow during transportation to the greatest extent possible.

  5) Safe and reliable, with no toxin decomposition: The pump is made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE), which boasts exceptionally stable chemical properties and is therefore also suitable for use in the food industry.

  6) Low coefficient of friction: The pump’s internal coefficient of friction is only 0.07–0.11, giving it self-lubricating properties. Under water-lubricated conditions, its dynamic coefficient of friction is half that of PA66 and polyoxymethylene (POM). When operating in sliding or rotating motion, its lubricity even surpasses that of steel and brass when lubricated with oil.

  7) Excellent anti-adhesion properties: Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) exhibits outstanding anti-adhesion performance, with an adhesion resistance comparable to that of PTFE. Consequently, it also performs exceptionally well when conveying media with higher viscosities.

  Performance Introduction:

  1) The UHB-type chemical mortar pump is corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant, versatile, and suitable for handling clear liquid slurries of both acidic and alkaline substances.

  2) The pump body of the corrosion-resistant mortar pump features a steel-lined structure made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, with a lining thickness ranging from 8 to 20 mm. This pump incorporates patented plastic lining technology and, compared to other similar pumps, boasts superior resistance to thermal deformation in the lining layer, excellent crack resistance, prevention of lining detachment, and higher operating temperature limits.

  3) The impeller is available in two types: open and closed, and can be selected according to the condition of the medium.

  4) Seals: K-type mechanical seal, K1-type mechanical seal, T-type packing seal, T1-type packing seal, C3-type non-standard seal.

  5) Applicable media: Sulfuric acid with a concentration of 80% or lower, nitric acid with a concentration of 50% or lower, hydrochloric acid of various concentrations, and liquid alkali. Suitable for both clear liquids and slurries.

  4) Main technical parameters: Operating temperature: -20℃ to 80℃ (with modified materials, the operating temperature can be increased to over 100℃); inlet diameter: 32mm to 350mm; flow rate: 5 to 2600 m³/h; head: up to 80m.

Chemical Erosion Mortar Pump: Startup, Operation, and Maintenance

  1. Preparations before operation:

Before the trial run, first manually turn the coupling or shaft to check whether the rotation direction is correct and whether the operation is smooth. If the coupling fails to turn or emits unusual noises, promptly carry out a thorough inspection. During the inspection, start by visually checking from the outside whether the coupling is properly aligned horizontally. Then, through the oil-level sight glass on the bearing housing, verify that the lubricant level is near the centerline of the sight glass (if there’s too much lubricant, drain some; if there’s too little, add more). While performing these checks, continue to manually turn the coupling. If the problem persists, disassemble the pump for further inspection. (When disassembling the pump, please refer to the simplified structural diagram and disassembly/assembly procedures provided in this manual.) Remove any foreign objects and then contact our factory to discuss and agree on a solution.

  2. Driving steps:

  a. Fill the pump with liquid.

  b. Open the inlet valve promptly (if the inlet and outlet valves are check valves with one-way flow, no manual operation is required).

  c. Connect the power supply

  d. Open the kick-off valve.

  3. Operation:

If any abnormal sounds occur during operation, or if the motor becomes excessively hot or exhibits other unusual conditions, you should also stop the machine and perform an inspection. The inspection methods and steps are the same as those described in Section 1.

  4. Parking procedure:

  a. First, close the valve at the outlet.

  b. Cut off the power supply and promptly close the valve at the inlet; (if the inlet valve is a one-way check valve, no manual operation is required.)

  5. Maintenance

  a. The lubricating oil inside the bearing housing should be replaced regularly—under normal circumstances, once every six months.

  b. During the cold season, if ice formation occurs after the pump is stopped, first connect the cooling water to the sealing area. If necessary, add heated water to thaw the ice. Then, manually turn the coupling until it rotates smoothly, and proceed with the startup procedure as instructed.

  c. For pumps equipped with a cooling water system, the cooling water should be turned on before starting the pump. During normal operation, the cooling water can remain connected; however, if conditions do not permit, it can also be shut off. There are no specific requirements for the flow rate or pressure of the cooling water—tap water is sufficient.

  d. The operating condition in which the pump runs with the outlet valve closed is referred to as closed-pressure operation. For all-plastic pumps or lined plastic pumps, the duration of closed-pressure operation should be minimized as much as possible. For media at ambient temperature, the duration should not exceed 5 minutes; for high-temperature media, it is best not to exceed 2 minutes.

  e. For pumps with a mid-section pump housing—such as those with an inlet diameter of 50 mm or more—the sealing plastic at the mid-section joint may experience slight dimensional changes due to thermal expansion and contraction. Therefore, during installation, you should first tighten the connecting bolts at the mid-section before connecting the inlet piping, thus preventing leakage at the mid-section joint. This guideline is particularly important for users in northern regions.

  f. The pump cannot bear the weight of the inlet and outlet pipelines; therefore, the inlet pipeline should be as short as possible, and the vertical distance from the pump outlet to the valve should be as short as feasible.

  g. Ensure there is no moisture on the motor to prevent it from getting damp.

Chemical Mortar Pump Disassembly and Assembly Procedure

  1. Impeller without vanes (for pumps with an inlet diameter ≤ 125 mm)

Disassembly and Assembly Sequence: (Refer to the structural diagram in this manual)

  a. Loosen the bolts connecting the pump body 5 to the pump cover, and remove the pump cover.

  b. Loosen the impeller retaining cap 2 (left-hand thread) and the anti-rotation nut 3 (left-hand thread), then remove the impeller 4.

  c. Loosen the connecting bolts between the pump body 5 and the bearing housing 10, then remove the pump body 5.

  d. Loosen the connecting bolts between the seal housing 6 and the pump body 5, then remove the seal housing 6.

  e. Unscrew the rear pressure plate on the sealing box and remove the oil seal.

The installation sequence is the reverse of the disassembly sequence. Please note:

After securely fastening the impeller cover, check the clearance between the impeller and the pump body one by one. This clearance should be around 2 mm.

  b. After installing the pump impeller, check the clearance between the pump cover and the impeller (looking from the discharge port inward). This clearance should be maintained at around 2 mm. For pumps used with high-temperature media, this clearance should be approximately 2.5 mm.

  c. If the clearance between the impeller and the pump body does not meet the requirements, it can be adjusted by adding or removing shims between the impeller and the shaft sleeve.

  d. If the clearance between the pump cover and the impeller does not meet the required specifications, it can be adjusted by adding or removing shims between the pump body and the pump cover.

  2. Pumps with impellers equipped with vanes (pumps with inlet diameters > 125 mm)

Disassembly and assembly sequence: (Refer to the structural diagram in the instruction manual)

  a. Loosen the bolts connecting the pump body 5 to the pump cover 1, and remove the pump cover 1.

  b. Loosen the impeller retaining cap 2 (left-hand thread) and the anti-rotation nut 3 (left-hand thread), then remove the impeller 4.

  c. Loosen the connecting threads between the pump body 5 and the bearing housing 12, as well as the connecting bolts between the seal box 7 and the pump body, then remove the pump body 5.

  d. Remove the impeller, seal housing, oil seal, and shaft sleeve one by one.

The installation sequence is the reverse of the disassembly sequence. Please note:

  a. After tightening the nut opposite the impeller cap and the water-stop ring, check the clearance between the impeller and the pump body. This clearance should be around 2.5 mm.

  b. After installing the pump cover, check the clearance between the pump cover and the impeller (looking from the outlet inward). This clearance should be maintained at around 2 mm. For pumps handling high-temperature media, this clearance requirement is 2.5 mm.

  c. If the clearance between the impeller and the pump body does not meet the requirements, it can be adjusted by adding or removing shims between the impeller and the shaft sleeve.

  d. Pump Cover: If the clearance between the pump cover and the impeller does not meet the requirements, it can be adjusted by adding or removing shims between the pump body and the pump cover.

Q

What is your typical delivery time?

A

Models in stock can be shipped the next day at the latest. All others are custom-made, with lead times generally ranging from 7 to 90 days depending on the product size and project specifics. Please contact our sales manager for details: 0731-88632200 。

Q

Do you have centrifugal pumps in stock?

A

Centrifugal pumps come in numerous models and configurations. Except for a small number of high-volume, standard models that are in stock, the vast majority are not stocked and are customized products. We need to select a pump based on your site's flow rate, head, media temperature, pH value, and installation conditions, etc., to determine the pump model and configuration before we can submit an order to the factory for production.

Q

What information should I provide when requesting a quote?

A

Generally, to obtain an accurate quotation, we recommend providing us with the following information: pump flow rate, head, on-site operating voltage and frequency, temperature, pH value, and solid particle content of the fluid being conveyed, and on-site installation conditions (horizontal or vertical installation), etc.

If you are not sure, don't worry, our business managers will assist you in determining this.

Q

What products do you mainly produce?

A

Zhonglian Pump Industry manufactures various large industrial centrifugal pumps. Main products include: self-balancing multi-stage pumps, multi-stage centrifugal pumps, single-stage centrifugal pumps, split-case pumps, chemical pumps, submersible pumps, pipeline pumps, long-shaft pumps, condensate pumps, etc.

Q

Could you help me with the selection?

A

Certainly! If the water pump model is not selected accurately, there will be big problems. If you choose a smaller one, it won't meet your needs; if you choose a larger one, it will waste electricity and fuel, increasing your costs.

Q

Why is it so slow to get a price quote?

A

Because centrifugal pumps are non-standard customized products with many models, the price range is also very large. Even for the same model, the price difference is also very large due to different materials and configurations. Taking the most common water pump accessory—the impeller—as an example, the price of a stainless steel impeller is several times that of a cast iron impeller. Therefore, we need to clarify the relevant information to give you an accurate price. Normally, if you provide relatively comprehensive information, we can quote within 5 minutes.
