Product Overview
SH High-flow Double-suction Middle-open pump This is a horizontal, single-stage, double-suction pump with a horizontally split casing—a centrifugal pump designed for conveying clean water as well as liquids whose physical and chemical properties are similar to those of water, including mildly corrosive liquids (with liquid temperatures not exceeding 80°C). It is suitable for water supply and drainage in factories, mines, urban areas, and power plants, as well as for agricultural drainage and irrigation and various hydraulic engineering projects. The large-sized double-suction, split-case pump model 48SH-22 can also be used as a circulating pump in thermal power plants. Pumps of types SM, SF, and SY are all developed on the basis of the S-type pump, with modifications made to materials, seals, and structural design to meet specific requirements—for instance, handling waters containing high concentrations of silt and sand, or applications involving media that demand wear resistance, corrosion resistance, or compatibility with oils.
The SH-type split-case centrifugal pump is primarily used in applications involving the conveyance of liquids, such as municipal water supply plants, air-conditioning circulating water systems, building water supply, irrigation, drainage pumping stations, power plants, industrial water supply systems, fire protection systems, and the shipbuilding industry.
In the SH double-suction pump, both the suction port and the discharge port are located below the pump shaft axis, positioned perpendicularly to the axis in the horizontal direction. The pump casing features a split design, allowing maintenance without the need to disassemble the inlet and outlet pipelines or the motor (or other prime mover). When viewed from the coupling toward the pump, the pump rotates counterclockwise. However, upon special customer request, the rotation direction can also be changed to clockwise. The main components of the SH-type agricultural irrigation pump include: the pump body, pump cover, impeller, shaft, double-suction sealing ring, shaft sleeve, and bearings. With the exception of the shaft, which is made of high-quality carbon steel, the remaining parts are mostly manufactured from cast iron.
The pump casing and pump cover form the working chamber for the impeller. On the inlet and outlet flanges, there are threaded holes for installing vacuum gauges and pressure gauges. At the lower part of the inlet and outlet flanges, there are threaded holes for draining water. The impeller has undergone static balancing verification and is secured by a shaft sleeve and locknuts on both sides. Its axial position can be adjusted via these locknuts. The axial forces acting on the impeller are balanced thanks to the symmetrical arrangement of its blades; any remaining axial forces are borne by the bearings at the shaft ends. The pump shaft is supported by two single-row radial ball bearings, which are housed in bearing housings at both ends of the pump casing and are lubricated with grease. A double-suction sealing ring is used to minimize water leakage from the pump’s pressurized chamber back into the suction chamber.

Structural Features of SH Horizontal Single-Stage High-Flow Double-Suction Split-Casing Centrifugal Pump
Compact structure: aesthetically pleasing, highly stable, and easy to install.
Smooth operation: The optimally designed double-suction impeller minimizes axial forces to the lowest possible level, features an impeller blade profile with excellent hydraulic performance, and is manufactured through precision casting. As a result, both the inner surface of the pump casing and the impeller surface are exceptionally smooth, exhibiting remarkable cavitation resistance and high efficiency.
Shaft seal: BURGMANN mechanical seal or packing seal is selected. It can ensure 8,000 hours of operation without leakage.
Bearings: SKF and NSK bearings are selected to ensure smooth operation, low noise, and a long service life.
Installation method: No adjustment is required during assembly; installation can be either vertical or horizontal, depending on site conditions.
Assembly and Disassembly of SH Horizontal Single-Stage High-Flow Double-Suction Split-Casing Centrifugal Pump
1. Assemble the rotor components of the mid-open centrifugal pump: Sequentially mount the impeller, shaft sleeve, shaft sleeve nut, packing sleeve, packing ring, packing gland, water stop ring, and bearing assembly onto the pump shaft. Then, slide on the double-suction sealing ring and finally install the coupling.
2. For the mid-open centrifugal pump, mount the rotor assembly onto the pump body, adjust the axial position of the impeller to the midpoint between the double-suction sealing rings on both sides, and secure it in place. Then, tighten the bearing housing cover together with the set screws.
3. After installing the packing on the mid-split centrifugal pump and placing the paper gasket for the mid-split surface, put on the pump cover, secure the screw pin at the tail of the bolt, then tighten the pump cover nuts. Finally, install the packing gland. However, do not compress the packing too tightly—excessive compression can cause the shaft sleeve to heat up and increase power consumption. On the other hand, do not compress it too loosely either; if the packing is too loose, there will be significant liquid leakage and the pump efficiency will decline.
After assembly is complete, manually rotate the pump shaft. There should be no rubbing or scraping, and the rotation should be smooth and even. To disassemble, simply reverse the above-mentioned assembly sequence.
Installation Check:
1. The water pump and motor should be free of damage.
2. The installation height of the pump, plus the hydraulic losses in the suction piping and its velocity head, must not exceed the allowable suction vacuum height specified in the pump’s data sheet. The foundation dimensions shall conform to the installation dimensions of the pump unit.
3. Installation sequence:
① Place the pump on a concrete foundation equipped with anchor bolts, and adjust its level by using wedge-shaped shims placed between the pump and the foundation. Then, tighten the anchor bolts appropriately to prevent any movement.
② Pour concrete after the foundation and pump base feet are in place.
③ After the concrete has fully hardened, tighten the anchor bolts and recheck the pump’s levelness.
④ Correct the concentricity between the motor shaft and the pump shaft. Ensure that the two shafts are aligned in a straight line. The permissible tolerance for coaxiality on the outer circumference of the coupling is 0.1 mm, and the permissible tolerance for unevenness of the end-face clearance around the circumference is 0.3 mm. (After connecting the inlet and outlet pipelines and conducting a trial run, re-check both parameters again; they should still meet the above requirements.)
⑤ After verifying that the motor rotation direction matches the pump rotation direction, install the coupling and connecting pins.
4. The inlet and outlet pipelines should be supported by separate brackets and must not rely on the pump body itself for support.
5. The joint between the pump and the piping system must ensure good air tightness, especially for the inlet piping, which must be strictly leak-free and free of any potential air pockets in the installation.
6. If the pump is installed above the inlet water level, a foot valve can generally be installed to facilitate priming and start-up. Alternatively, a vacuum priming method can also be used.
7. After the pump and the discharge pipeline, a gate valve and a check valve are generally required (a check valve is not necessary for heads below 20 meters). The check valve should be installed behind the gate valve. The installation methods described above apply to pump units that do not come with a common base.
When installing a pump equipped with a common base, use wedge-shaped shims to adjust the level of the unit by aligning the base with the concrete foundation. Then, pour concrete between them. The installation principles and requirements are the same as those for units not equipped with a common base.
Startup, Shutdown, and Operation of SH Horizontal Single-Stage High-Flow Double-Suction Split-Casing Centrifugal Pump
1. Starting and Stopping:
① Before starting, the pump’s rotor should rotate smoothly and evenly when turned.
② Close the outlet gate valve and fill the pump with water (if there is no foot valve, use a vacuum pump to evacuate air and draw in water). Ensure that the pump is completely filled with water and free of any air pockets.
③ If the pump is equipped with a vacuum gauge or a pressure gauge, first close the rotary valve connected to the pump before starting the motor. Once the pump speed has stabilized, open the valve gradually. Then, slowly open the outlet gate valve. If the flow rate is too high, slightly close the gate valve to adjust it accordingly; conversely, if the flow rate is too low, open the gate valve wider.
④ Tighten the compression nuts on the packing gland evenly so that the liquid leaks out in a dripping manner. At the same time, pay attention to the temperature rise at the packing chamber.
⑤ When stopping the pump, first close the stopcocks on the vacuum gauge and pressure gauge, as well as the gate valve on the discharge pipeline. Then, turn off the power supply to the motor. If the ambient temperature is low, open the square screw plug at the bottom of the pump body to prevent freezing and cracking.
⑥ When the pump is to be discontinued for an extended period, disassemble it, wipe off any water from the components, apply rust-preventive oil to the machined surfaces, and store it properly.
2. Operation:
① The maximum temperature of the pump bearing should not exceed 75°C.
② The amount of calcium-based grease used for lubricating bearings should ideally occupy between one-third and one-half of the bearing housing space.
③ When the packing wears out, you can tighten the packing gland appropriately. If the wear is excessive, the packing should be replaced.
④ Regularly inspect the coupling components and pay attention to the temperature rise of the motor bearings.
⑤ During operation, if you detect any abnormal noises or unusual sounds, you should immediately stop the machine, inspect the cause, and eliminate the issue.
⑥ The pump’s rotational speed must not be arbitrarily increased; however, it can be operated at a lower speed. For example, if this pump has a rated speed of n, a flow rate of Q, a head of H, and an shaft power of N, and its speed is reduced to n1, the corresponding flow rate, head, and shaft power after the speed reduction will be Q1, H1, and N1, respectively. The relationships among these variables can be converted using the following formulas: Q1 = (n1/n)Q H1 = (n1/n)²H N1 = (n1/n)³N

Q
What is your typical delivery time?
A
Models in stock can be shipped the next day at the latest. All others are custom-made, with lead times generally ranging from 7 to 90 days depending on the product size and project specifics. Please contact our sales manager for details: 0731-88632200 。
Q
Do you have centrifugal pumps in stock?
A
Centrifugal pumps come in numerous models and configurations. Except for a small number of high-volume, standard models that are in stock, the vast majority are not stocked and are customized products. We need to select a pump based on your site's flow rate, head, media temperature, pH value, and installation conditions, etc., to determine the pump model and configuration before we can submit an order to the factory for production.
Q
What information should I provide when requesting a quote?
A
Generally, to obtain an accurate quotation, we recommend providing us with the following information: pump flow rate, head, on-site operating voltage and frequency, temperature, pH value, and solid particle content of the fluid being conveyed, and on-site installation conditions (horizontal or vertical installation), etc.
If you are not sure, don't worry, our business managers will assist you in determining this.
Q
What products do you mainly produce?
A
Zhonglian Pump Industry manufactures various large industrial centrifugal pumps. Main products include: self-balancing multi-stage pumps, multi-stage centrifugal pumps, single-stage centrifugal pumps, split-case pumps, chemical pumps, submersible pumps, pipeline pumps, long-shaft pumps, condensate pumps, etc.
Q
Why is it so slow to get a price quote?
A
Because centrifugal pumps are non-standard customized products with many models, the price range is also very large. Even for the same model, the price difference is also very large due to different materials and configurations. Taking the most common water pump accessory—the impeller—as an example, the price of a stainless steel impeller is several times that of a cast iron impeller. Therefore, we need to clarify the relevant information to give you an accurate price. Normally, if you provide relatively comprehensive information, we can quote within 5 minutes.
